Do you have an online store?

Yes! Check it out under our products tab.

is your farm open to the public?

Short answer: no. Long answer: we are open to it, but it is our home. We do not have any set hours and tours would require walking on uneven ground. Bathroom and water access is only available in our house. Someday we hope to have a better option for visitors.

What do you do with lavender?

We make a bunch of products with it. Primarily it is the essential oils that people are after. The entire plant holds lavender essentials oils in it. The oils are most concentrated in the buds. We use the plant material to create multiple options for you to access these oils. Lavender oil is a natural insect repellant and is a great alternative to moth balls. Our sachets are full of lavender buds and this is one of their many uses. Beyond a lovely scent, lavender is also beautiful! Many customers enjoy the looks of a dried bundle in a vase or hanging on the wall. Some customers have enjoyed hanging a bundle in their shower for a gentle aromatherapy while they bathe. Lavender is a calming scent, making it a common herb to incorporate into a pre bedtime routine. Buds can be added to make a floral tea or buds in our bath bombs promote relaxation. English lavender is the most common variety for culinary purposes and can be used in baking, teas, or even savory dishes. Lavender is common in Herbs De Provence. Our pink Himalayan lavender garlic salt is delicious on popcorn, vegetables, fish, chicken, and in soups.

Is it easy to grow lavender?

It is a more sensitive plant. While it is drought tolerate, it is not Kansas drought tolerate. It needs water, but not too much. If its roots stay wet too long, it can cause damage. One of our biggest struggles in Kansas is winter survival. What we have found that helps, is location. Ideal location provides Southern sun, protection from North wind, protection from West wind (secondary to North), and in well draining, fertile soil. It can grow in less than ideal positions but may not live quite as long or grow in a funky shape. Early fall or late spring pruning helps strengthen plant. We typical have ~5 years solid growth before the plant begins to decline.

Is garlic easier to grow?

Easier than lavender. It is Mary's favorite thing to grow. Planted in fall as it needs cold temps to germinate (also why you should not store garlic in fridge). Each cloves will grow into a bulb. Similar to lavender it is planted and harvested by hand which is labor intensive. It will survive in a field setting or live in a pot.
