All the garlic seeds are in the ground! There are about 10,000 garlic babies tucked in under a nice blanket of hay. As in years past, we appreciate the help of family to get the job done. The rain slowed the process and stretched it out over the month of October with the final rows getting covered last week. We are grateful for a successful planting and opportunity to grow garlic another year.
We will not be at Patio Party today. The event is still happening but we are unable to attend.
Our next scheduled market is this Saturday in CG at the Patio Party. We will be set up with lots of other vendors in the back. The day is free and will have delicious food options and live music as well! Check out more about the festivities here: https://facebook.com/events/s/patio-party/669298502943513/
Our hardneck garlic is available at Grove Gardens in Council Grove and at Hy-Vee in Manhattan!
Hardneck is known for its pungent flavor, large cloves, and producing scapes. While hardneck varieties do not store as long as softneck, most will keep well through this year. None of our garlic is treated and works well for seed. Experience the joy of eating and growing Kansas garlic! See us tomorrow June 21, from 10:00-4:00 in the Council Grove Junior Senior High School.
For more information about Washunga days visit: https://www.councilgrove.com/washunga-days We have had cooler weather this spring. The last few days have provided a lot of rain. Not much for playing outside but the plants are loving it. With the warm weather coming, they are going to explode! Check out the pictures for more details about statuses of the garlic and lavender.
The Yoder bros are in the early stages of their next entrepreneur adventure to save up for a new Nintendo switch. I have a feeling this will be more successful than their lemonade stands. Our next market will be Washunga Days indoor craft show in the CGJSHS on June 21, 10:00-4:00. Spring is here. More garlic than weeds has come up at this point and is looking good. With the birth of our third son this winter we decided not to sell plants this year. We have been chipping away at the garden. Still early on the lavender annalysis but so far it looks like decent survival with some winter die back. With the extremely low temperatures these past winters, we have come to expect some loss. Particuarly the older plants and those farthest from wind break seem to be most affected. Once we get them weeded and trimmed (nows the time!), I will post a picture of the lavender plot.
